As some of you may know, I came back from my OCSP(overseas community service project) in India about 2 weeks ago. Before I embark on the details of my trip, let me share the reason behind me joining Project Gazaab. Other than fulfilling the 80 hours of community service as part of the degree requirement, I thought that it was important that the purpose of the project needed to be in line with that of my own. Project Gazaab is very different from other ocsps, and doesn't involve us doing the same old things like building houses, painting house etc. It was about the concept of micro-social enterprise, where we would guide the students living in the suburbs about setting up their own business, that even with the little technology and resources, they can still be entrepreneurs. Being in ISE (initiative for social enterprise), this was the obvious choice. Project Gazaab has just completed its third year in running, and one of the inspirational stories that sprouted from the founder's (Jamon) efforts can be found here:

Here I am, entering my recess week in SMU. Here's what on my plate so far:

1. Currently handling 4.5 modules, with 4 presentations and 3 written reports due in 6 weeks

2. In the midst of preparation for my overseas community service project (2nd December to 18th December). I'm really excited about this project, because I've heard so many fulfilling experiences from my friends who have gone on ocsps before, and this time we are planning everything on our own!

3. Handling 2 tuition kids for my first semester. The good news is the place is just about 10 minutes from my place.

4. Fun Factory on alternate weekends

I've been coping pretty well...so far.

Schoolwork and other commitments aside, I'm just so thankful for good team mates, and support from both the family and boyfriend.

I'd rather love just a little too much

Every now and then I get the inspiration to update this space here, and right now the inspiration comes from a movie! Before I touch on that, here's just a little update to fill the spaces in between the last blog post.

Firstly, I cant believe how fast 6 months has whizzed past so quickly, and university is starting soon! I am grateful that I've managed to work at a place that is not only convenient, but also blessed with TLs that have been ever so understanding and taking the temps under their wings with such patience. My colleagues are a fun bunch of people that help to ease the mundane-ness of routine. My place is uni is not yet finalised, I'm giving SMU a shot again and I'm leaving the rest to God. I might not be sure where Im headed now, but I do know my future is already in God's hands.

Also, it's J's birthday month! Fortunately, we got to spend more time together this year, which meant a sorta unplanned (pre/present/post) birthday celebration. We ate, and ate,...and ate. Circuit road hawker food, ichiban boshi, swensons' , fatboy,(almost salted caramel), takoyaki, fried icecream, and seafood. Yes, we love food. It's been almost 2 and a half years with him, and I'm ever so thankful for him in my life. Love you dear!

So, today saw Weidi and I on one of our many spontaneous meet-ups, the " hey do you wanna catch a movie/go for drink/ hang out and catch up with each other because I miss you" moment.

We had dinner at hongkong cafe, whose staff actually imagined that we paid $44 for a $24 meal and gave us $20 change for free, which we used it to pay for our movie tickets (we wish). I had a great time with weidi (always do), picking up from where we last left and just talking/hearing about each other's work/personal life.

So....the inspiration behind this post: drumrolls...

I know what you're thinking, it's just another rom-com! But I really enjoyed watching every bit of it, and what really drew me to the movie even more was the movie soundtracks! Just like weidi said, soundtracks sound good on their own, but even better when they are featured in movies because it adds a whole new story line to the song. I liked that something borrowed wasn't that predictable, even at the climax. Okay, I must admit, both of us couldn't stop squealing at colin egglesfield (we are girls, after all). Definitely the cherry on top yes? Shall not do a spoiler over here, go watch it and you'll know what I mean! :)

We are in the finals.

I want to share with you all what lijing wrote for the team the night before the tj-sa match. It was inspiring, still is, and even as I'm writing this post I can't believe that they are one step closer to achieving the tj wcwpt dream.

"Tomorrow's game is one that we started the season looking forward to, the most highly anticipated match of the year, the one that we trained so hard for. There'll be no second chances; no regrets; no what ifs; no could have beens and no buts.

Tomorrow we are up against our strongest opponent, ourselves. This is not a game between SA and us anymore, it's a battle against ourselves, a fight to redefine "giving our best", making our best better. Tomorrow we will conquer the pool, solely because we will continue fighting on till the last second, when the horn is sounded. This is it girls, it's time to prove that Mr Loh and Mr Bunz have not scolded us in vain, time to do this together as a team and time to savour the fruits of our labor. Tomorrow they may kick, pull, scratch, punch, drown and climb on us. But why should we let what they can/cannot do affect us? Our ability is not built on what our opponent does to us. The girls, some were sick or injured, physical signs of the past few weeks of intense training revealing their ugly head. Yet, they persevered. Even as I was standing at the spectator stand at acsi yesterday, cheering them on and adrenaline pumping with each point scored against our opponent, I just felt so proud of team 2011. Because what I saw wasn't weakness, but the mental grit to break past any pain. A determination so evident, it was the rock that brought them through every quarter. What I witnessed, was team spirit.

We are already winners, because we have made it this far.

Even as 2010 comes to a close, and we all welcome 2011, I would like to recount my blessings for the past 2 years.

I Thank God for....
My family, who've been there for me throughout. They've been supporting me emotionally, and financially(all the JC notes, all paid by them man).

For J, who was, and still is my best friend. We saw each other through hurdles(army for him, As for me), and that made us alot stronger than we thought. I'm looking forward to a whole new year with him, heh.

zee,sj,jacinth, and my net group. For being there for me.

My tk friends who were my source of support throughout these 2 years, for always
being there for me and to share my tj experience with. Ame, wd, Elain and Rachel. Our o level results ranged from 6-9 points, and through various circumstances we all ended up in the same college. Where we entered different classes, different ccas and made new friends.Yet I still loved them the same, and they remained one of the clowest to my heart till today.
6 years of friendship, and still counting aye.

My very first tj friends whom I met through orientation, nut and zt. They made my tj journey smooth sailing right from the very start and despite the short period of time I've known them, I feel so comfortable when I'm with them and the 3 of us, we all
have our dreams for next year, excited for the journey we're all gna take:)

My class, 1909. I do not even know where to begin. Honestly, being in my class still holds the record for one of the best things that has
happened in my whole academic life. I love how there are people to organize class gatherings, and we're all so willing to participate. I'm proud to say that my class is one of the most bonded in the whole cohort, and the pictures I've taken with them over the past 2 years speak so much for themselves. They've taught me what 'we're all in this together' really meant, and I love them so much because they've made tj so enjoyable for me, no matter what the other naysayers might comment about tj.

Dynamically, I am proud to say that we complement each other so well, and I'm appreciative for them because I've heard many other people complain about their respective groups, but I dont have any to complain of just because they're so awesomely coorperative. Yes, we all got our As :)

With my polo girls, most of us played the sport for the first time. We were all so apprehensive in the beginning but eventually, we emerged as a team stronger than anyone of us thought we'd become, we trained till muscles ached, cheered each other on when the going got tough, cried when it was our last match for the season. I love you girls:)

At the end of the day, I only have God to thank, for He has given me what I would say is the best 2 years of my academic life. I've learnt to trust in Him to guide my path, to have child-like faith to believe that my Heavenly father would never shortchange me, and that He will walk me through.

Surprisingly, clarke quay wasnt as crowded as I thought it'll be! I had a great time with J, zeechoo and weichien, cant wait for our next double date! :D
We went to Ma maison's where I tried butter coated escargots for the very first time and I'm not looking back man. It's so good I completely forgot that I'm eating snails. Went to Mulligan's after for some drinks, where the boys had their second meal while we listened to the good music there. Truly, nothing beats good company+good music :)

okay so instead of spamming my blog with more individual photos, I've decided to do a collage on my JB trip! not in chronological order of course. This trip was rather impromptu for me because I wasn't sure if I could actually make it when J asked me to join them about 2 weeks before that since I started work the same week. Guess what, I smsed him just the night before the trip if there was space for me to join them, and you cannot imagine the joy when he informed me that I could go! Yet another post-A level activity added to my schedule, teehee.

I played paintballing for the first time, didn't get any orh-cheys thankfully! I know it hurts because J got hit quite a few times and the bruises are still healing for him. Anyhow, we really enjoyed ourselves trying to hide from our enemies and aiming for a good shot. The trajectory of the gun is super high(physics students correct me if the term I used is incorrect), which explains my many missed shots.Ya'll should go try it out when you have the chance!

Go-kart after that, the range was hugeeee and it was exhilarating to manoevre the go-kart. I refused to wear the face helmets they provided because it reminded me so much of my softball glove that made my hand stink everytime I used it. Wore a red kiddy helmet just for my head instead.

Dinner was seafood, which might I add was super delicious at such an affordable price. 9 dishes with 2 crabs, licked the crabshells clean baby.^^

Super fun trip with denise, aizhen, leon, adam, hsuhsing, sebastian, kah leong, roxie and J. Cant wait for countdown party with them again this year!!

TJC PROM 2010: HOLLYWOOD!

Headed to syaf's house in the afternoon on tuesday to get dressed up, with yq doing my hair and syaf's mom helping all of us with makeup. Really fun getting ready with them, the girliest moment of my life doing all that makeup and hairspray together!
(sidetracking a little, I finally found the shade of lipstick that's just the righttone without making me feel like cruella de ville the second. It's creme cup by mac. Loving my nyx natural tone blusher too.)

It was nice to see everyone prepped up for prom in their best, I couldnt recognize some of my friends because they were lookin' too good!
The event started at around 7.30-ish, with games along the 8-course meal we had.

I thought nura's impromptu dance performace during the best-dressed nominations(she won, duh) was the Pièce de résistance of the whole night, together with shariff and his band members mock rendition (because they were'nt really singing and playing) bon jovi's "it's my life"

I had a pleasant time at my table with yx,shijie,beatrice,izzah and yq together withthe new friends I made. Yx was being sucha gentleman the whole night, helping all the ladies get their food serving.

The rest of the evening was spent snap snap snapping away of pictures, it was an eye-fest looking at all the pretty girls and handsome boys!

-First meeting lipin to head down to bgc @ raffles place to sign our contract( we start work on 13th december!),
-then to parco @ millenia walk to shop for her prom dress,
-off to meet the SWIM TEAM at fish & co
-and then down to sharmian's house to see dear blessing and fendi.

Really thankful that the plans just fell into place nicely for the next few weeks. Both lipin and I thought that we were gna have to be fashionably late on prom night should we have to start work next week. Turns out, we're gna start on the 13th! Perfect. Pay's good + getting to work with my classmate= awesomeezz

Caught up with my swim team after, gosh I miss us so much. saddens me that this will be one of the last few gatherings we might have, before we're headed into another year of exams(for them) and work + army (for the seniors). I LOVE YOU GUYS :)

If there's one fact you must know about me, that will be the extreme dichotomy I seem to have between my social life and my academic life. There's an otherwise very little space for both to take an equal stand in my life(who does?). I guess it has largely to do with who I am, I'm someone who wants to give 100% to whatever I'm doing, and that probably explains why my life takes 180 degree turns whenever I'm in my exam period and when I'm not. You know, as I was standing in the hall watching my seniors receive their results last year,I told myself that next year, at the same time, i will want my name called out for getting my 6As. That dream became some sort of a subconcious motivation throughout these two years. With just 4 papers left, I need to keep going and then give my very best.

Today saw me taking the long way home because I had certain things going through my mind, and well, walkin helps me think. I received my math and chem paper back today and truth be told I was trying to fight back my disappointment. I did expect at least Bs for both but ended up with a grade lower for both. Don't judge me, we all have our standards to live up to and this is mine. I finally understood how yx felt because I see people all around me improving from jcts and well for me, it was more of a status quo and even a drop for math and it got me questioning if this is really my maximum potential. The optimist in me is telling me not to give up and keep pressing on because 6 weeks can make a big difference.

I am in a good mood today.

Let's just say I'm glad this week is over. Didn't exactly start prelims on the right foot but I'm glad things picked up as the days went by.
God's goodness has just been so overflowing. Through my darkest days and heaviest of hearts He never fails to let me know that he's always there, to hold my hand and walk me through. From my parents, to J, to my friends and even my tutors, they've just been such great support in one way or another. There's just a soothing peace even as I face paper after paper everyday. Especially after today's papers, I do feel like half the load has been lifted off my chest. I'm comfortable with the pace I'm keeping right now and I need to constantly remind myself not to be complacent and keep on going.

I've got this blazer lying in my wardrobe that I've yet to alter because I'm too lazy to head down to the seamstress and a turquoise sundress(that has also been hanging there ever since J's birthday)I've been wanting to pair it with.
I've also stopped getting new outfits or figure out how to match my outfits now since I only head out on sundays, and
even though I should be in my sunday's best right now Im just comfortable in a simple top and my favourite pair of faded skinny jeans.

Ramble ramble.
Today, I went to swim for a good one hour after my Econs paper and boy nothing kicks away tightened muscles like swimming does. (and a tan!)

tomorrow, I will be meeting J for dinner and that's the only other thing I'm looking forward to besides the end of my prelims.

Met up with J after school at tampines mall today to get his iPhone 4 with him(like finally!!). The boy was trying to contain his excitement while waiting to get his hands on his new baby. That boy, couldn't wait to use it only. We had dinner at Tamp mall, and we chanced upon the new Sony tv that allows you to watch ALL your channels in 3D! Super super fascinated. It's even better than watching a 3D movie in theatres because this time you'd be 2metres away from the screen? Wow.

Today, i've also learnt that relationships are such fragile things. Breakups, I've seen some of my friends go through it and the heartbreak that entail... Well it results in a vicious cycle as we search for someone else to fill that presumably unfamiliar 'empty' hole. We do not realize that the more we give away our heart, the more fragile it is. There is so much importance in guarding your heart really. When I grow up and have my own family, this will definitely be one of the Many values I will impart to my daughter. To guard your heart, for it is so precious. Personally, I believe that a strong relationship, between our loved ones, must be built on trust and understanding, patience and acceptance(of the imperfections, especially). Ultimately, the ones that stand firm against the test of time would be one built on God, because He's the rock that cannot be shaken, the One that is the alpha and omega. And if a relationship starts from Him, we can be fully assured that it will end in Him.That alone, suffices.

Just some food for thought.

Hi Im back from my month-long hiatus. Havent felt the urge to blog at all because I've been so so busy lately with school.
JCTs ended off on a good note for me (thank GOD), and even though there were my dismal S grade for bio (big sigh) my other grades were pretty decent. I will not be discouraged, I will keep pressing on to pull my grade up for Bio.

To put it simply, I'm currently living the "no-life" life.How ironic. TJ gives us tests every single day so that we are consistently studying. Not that i'm complaining because this is the life I have to get used to for the next 4 months.

I've been cooping myself in my own little sanctuary at the library for the past 3 days, with akileis as my study buddy. 9 hours of studying for 3 days to hone our concentration skills for the upcoming exams...and more to come.
Mr khor says it's like training to run for a 10 km marathon. You dont just run 10 km during practice, you run 12km and that's called preparing. Doing more than the requirement.
Believe it or not I'm almost done with studying for math and chem! V proud of myself. Nevertheless, I must must make a mental note to get back on track for memorising bio (which I have, just that it's kind of stagnant now). Need to stop procrastinating and memorise memorise!!!

and in the midst of mugging, I've learnt a couple of things about prioritising too. So very tempted to head out with J and have dinner (they were gna have buffalo wings omgg) but no, I've got to study and I've got my curfew.

Enough of examination verbal diarrhoea, here's 2 books I found while taking study breaks, written by elizabeth adler.
aki says the type of books you read gives others a peek at the kind of person you are. I for one, will never be found with a book on computers. Go figure. Probe deeper, and I'd say (story)books are my form of escapism. I dont know how many of you can identify with this, but there's something about them that transports you into another realm and you cant put it down till the last page. And no it's not all about chick lit. I do get my dose of general knowledge and biographies from my TIME magazines.

Anyhow, here they are! I'm thinking if I should purchase them because they're really good, adler manages to combine travel, history, romance and murder(?) all in one book which is too good to give it a miss.

Gosh time flies. it's almost the end of the week!

Mardi Gras 2010 on thursday night. The theme was vintage but there were people who rented other costumes and it sure was an amusing sight to see all the different characters around. There were so many performances all going simultaneously it was hard to choose where to go and what to watch! Anyhow, I managed to catch yx ,shijie, joon keat and anwar's (didnt manage to see the girls,hmm) performances and it was my first time watching all of them, in their element. Not an everyday sight! The atmosphere was great, we took quite a few pictures, not many because we were enjoying ourselves a whole lot.

Last day of school ended off on a good note for me. Time to study for JCTs!

My 18th birthday was filled to the brim and (still) bursting at the seams with truckloadddss of love. Celebrated it on 23rd @ macs early in the morning with chen, elain, wd, ame and akileis at 640 in the morning. Super surprised that Jing came all the way down from novena to celebrate as well before he headed to work. aw(ww)esome much:) I was super touched by their efforts to wake up so darn early in the morning( I was already complaining that 640 is too early but my friends reached way earlier than me just to prepare!) I was grinning to myself like a silly 6 year old birthday girl but that was exactly what I was feeling, a silly 6 year old birthday girl having her tea party. hoho.

And that day was followed by birthday hugs and wishes, (ykno who you are!) and birthday smses. thank you izzah, syaf and yq for your birthday present! and how can i forget kathy made me the pretty birthday card :)

That night, my net group celebrated our (josh's friend, and yanfang) birthday @ hans'. Second birthday cake for the day, naise.

On saturday, I met j to watch the bounty hunter. The boy made me feel so special with the balloon and blue roses(my favourite!), and then gave me another surprise by bringing me to timbre for dinner.

Picnic for the very first time @ botanic gardens with the family. My dad can be so strange sometimes, he made us take photos with the picnic basket. "To show that we're finally using it after 10 years" he says. Sigh. haha.

and I'm not done yet!

Met up with my babies 2 days ago for dinner @ thai express. I had a great time with them albeit the v short duration. Ive missed them so much and again it just makes me so pleased that they took the time to celebrate my birthday^^

Perfect does not even come close to what I had for my 18th. The pictures you see above, the people in them, they've been such a huge part of my life it's gna be hard to imagine life w/out them. They're the ones who've seen me grow for the past 4-5 years and for my family, their whole life. I feel so so blessed to know that we're still holding strong till today, and even though the future is uncertain I want yall to know that I will still love yall the same. :)

LIVING THE DREAM.

All I can say is, the past 6 months or so has been a helluva journey for both the team and myself. We were challenged to pursue a dream that seemed so far away then, but then as I look at where we are now, it sure is a hell lot of a difference huh. We were the underdogs, considering the scores we held last year. I understood why we were skeptical, because of various factors, like how we werent fast like our seniors, and we were still very new to the sport. With barely half a year of training as compared to the other schools, it definitely wasn't easy. But as the months went past and I see improvements in each of us, slowly but surely, I really began to believe that we could actually do this. I've had my seeds of doubt, but I still chose to believe. Many of you who are in a team sport know that it takes more than just dreaming big to win. We have been stretched physically, mentally, each time challenging ourselves to go further than where we were, pushing the boundaries. Even though we didnt make it to finals, I already feel like a winner because we fought hard all the way to the end, we've overcomed what we thought was almost impossible and that alone, suffices. God has been so amazing, first putting me in swimming, then polo, where I've witnessed passion like never before. TJWCWPT really is, where we've grown as a team and as individuals. I LOVE MY GIRLS:)
